sam riddle eats oatmeal, kicks bankole thompson’s scrawny ass

Before we even get started, let’s note that this alleged incident took place at The Clique dinner on Jefferson. Could that joint get any more awesome? It’s not every town where a potential future Congresswoman, her key political aide, and a reporter can get into a scrap at a greasy spoon attached to a no-tell motel. We love The Clique.

So the story is pretty straightforward. Sam Riddle was eating his oatmeal and conversing with Mary Waters when they spotted Bankole Thompson of the Michigan Chronicle. They weren’t happy because Thompson wrote that Waters and Riddle were knocking boots like Christine Beatty and Kwame Kilpatrick. Thompson says Riddle shoved him in the chest and filed a police report. Riddle says Thompson was bothering him while he was eating his oatmeal. No really. WDIV quoted Riddle saying “…don’t bother older guys when they’re eating oatmeal. OK?”

In ancient Rome, politicians would offer free bread and circus to distract the citizens when things were going bad. In modern Detroit, oatmeal substitutes for bread and politicians are the circus. If that’s wrong then we don’t want to be right. Panem et circenses! (WDIV)
